    questions on 2000 ranger

picked up a 2000 ext. ranger 4x4 w/ 3.0 for my daughter to drive but dont know fords that well.

why does the fan run so high its like it has a load like the a/c on it? sounds like the fan is 3 times louder then the ,motor

also i get a vibration in the front end only when going threw a curve at high speeds! when at the same high speeds on staight away no vibration.

    any ideas?  thanks!

the fan uses a viscous clutch fluid and bymetalic strip. chance are the strip is bad, causing the fan to stay "engaged" a new fan w/ "clutch" wouldn't be too much i'd imagine.

If you have vibration in corners I wouldn't hesitate to get this fixed, (the trucks for your daughter?) check ball joints, suspension arms, tie rod ends...These trucks can take a beating and usually do,,they're not kidding when they say Ford tough.

"also check for loose wheel bearings."

I would go with the above statement.  Keep in mind that because it is 4X4 it is basically the same type of setup as a regular front wheel drive car.  It has an axle coming out to a hub mounted with your wheel on it.  If the wheel bearings go bad when you are in a corner it throws everything out of alignment, you may also hear the bearing when in the corner also.  I also agree that because it is your daughter driving it, I would check it quick........  Jack up the front end then check for side to side wheel play then top to bottom play (in and out), there should be no noticeable play on either side......

thanks for the replies ! i will check the front end parts for wear, is it a common issue to have the strip for the fan go bad? anyway to check if it faulty?
