Chrysler Slashes Prices $7000 – Consumers in the Drivers Seat

TAMPA, FL - Here is the scoop: Chrysler will provide dealers up to $7,000 in ‘dealer cash' for certain 2006 models. It turns out that there are roughly 214,000 unsold Chrysler cars collecting dust on the lots.

Reuters recently reported that "DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is offering half a billion dollars to U.S. dealers in an effort to clear 2006 inventory, a person familiar with the situation said Tuesday." (1)

Autotropolis has learned that many dealers have complained they were forced by Chrysler to order cars they could not sell.  The slow to move models include: Dodge Charger, Dodge Durango SUV, and the Dodge Ram.  The cars offering the biggest incentive of $7,000 are the Durango SUV and Ram Pickup Truck.

Across the board, you can expect to save $4,224 per Chrysler vehicle. If you compare the average rebate to other car makers, Chrysler is offering the most cash back. Toyota offers little or no rebates; Ford's average is about $3,000 and GM's average hovers just over $2,000.

In addition to the $7,000 dealer cash rebate program, Chrysler mailed out over 3.4 million coupons good for $1,000 at accredited car dealerships. If you did not receive one of these special promotions, ask your local dealer to provide you with one.  There is a catch to the $1,000 rebate because you cannot use it to buy the: Sebring sedan, Dodge Viper, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8.

What is Dealer Cash?

Basically, Chrysler is giving the car dealership a rebate. Most of the time the dealership passes the savings on to the consumer and statistics show that 85% of the dealer cash rebate is passed to the consumer. Therefore, the average person will save about $6,000.
