    power steering whine

Hi, i have an Audi 2000 A8, with 4.2 engine. The steering pump has a whine when you turn the wheels both ways. also hard to turn when standing still. The reservoir is full but bubbles when the car is running. Have tried turning the wheels back and forth, no good. This started when i left the car parked over night with the tires turned all the way to the left. I'm thinking pump, but perhaps it's not.

    Re: power steering whine

you said that the reservoar is full of bubbles?
technically is foaming and it cause by air in the system.
and you said that the resevoir is full. The reservoir should not be full but at the marking at "full hot" when engine is hot, and at "full cold" when engine is cold.
If the reservoir is completely full like you said, that could ,or have allready damage the pump or gear.

when i said full i meant at the proper full mark, not at the top of the reservior.

Ok now. Just try to make sure you have power steering fluid or transmission fluid running in the system, drain and refill with new clean fluid as a cheap alternative
