    Dodge Caravan

When the main switch is completely off I can still read 54.6 Mill amp of current draw between the ground and the negative terminal of the battery. There is a section in the manual that says the area around the fuel pump and the automatic shut down relay is hot all the time. .My question is:  When I shut the engine off is there any current draw at all or is there something drawing power with the switch off. I know the clock is still running but that should not draw that much power. .

    Re: Dodge Caravan

I have a problem.  Maybe similar.  2003 Grand Caravan.  If I don't drive it for 2 or 3 days, I turn the key and hear tick tick tick.  It won't start until I boost the battery.  Is additional current being drawn.  I purchased a new battery and still have the problem.  Could it be the starter, but this only occurs if I don't drive it for a couple days.  I had a Viper alarm installed but I do not think that it draws significant additional current.  I had the alarm guy check the wiring and stuff to see if it was drawing additional current or shorting.  He says the alarm is fine and not causing any problems.  I pretty much trust his opinion.

It is no a cold weather problem.  It happens just the same when the weather is warm.

    Any ideas.

    Re: Dodge Caravan

I guess it is a problem that we will have to live with.  Since the weather has warmed up I don't seem to be having the trouble.  I guess my problem is that I was not driving enough  during the cold weather to keep the battery charged up. I only drive the car abut 8 miles  a day.  Saves gas too.

They tell me that the small milliamp drain on the battery should not run it down for a month or so if the car is not driven.  It is an inherent[*-)] problem in the design

    Thanks for your reply.

    Re: Dodge Caravan

Used to own a Pontiac van that had a power drain over night. Seems that if I had used alot of accessories and didn't turn them of before turning the key off, that something was staying on. It was the radio and heater fan. Somehow the extra power use had locked a relay or something on. Turned things off after that and had no more problems.

    Re: Dodge Caravan

Well, I'm concerned for my Dodge. When I drive a bit door open sensor comes on causing the lights to flash and the automatic door locks to come on and this can happen two or three time a minute . Stopping and closing all doors again sometimes help but the problem does come back.

    Re: Dodge Caravan

I also  experienced a lot of  problems with my dodge caravan. Although, my dealer told me that it has furnished the repairs at reduced cost to some people. It certainly is worth talking to your dealer about.
