I was leaving for a meeting one day and backed out in the middle of the road, and my 5 speed stick went all loose and floppy on my. There was no way I could put my car into any gear. So I had to get help and push my car back in the parking place. I had a mechanic look at and he said I would need to place the gear shift cable. I ordered the part from Advance Auto Parts, and my mechanic put it in. When I test drove my car around the block the gear popped out of third gear almost three times. My mechanic drove it and it didn't for him, and said to make sure I push it in gear. Well a week later, I'm leaving a store and try 7 times to put my car in reverse gear, started driving home and it felt loose again and kept popping out of third gear. I called the mechanic and he looked at it and said to buy the cable from the dealership. We don't have a dealership close to my house, so I bought another one from Napa Auto Parts. My mechanic put it in and I test drove it. It did the same thing -- the 3rd gear popped out on me three times. Unless I hold my hand on the gear while in third, it seems to most likely pop out. What gives? Does anybody know. The dealership I called said it could be the clutch? What? My clutch works fine. I've had a bad clutch in my Nissan Sentra 5 speed and I don't think that's even related to what keeps causing this problem. If anyone has any suggestions, I would sure appreciate it. This is such a nightmare. I will never purchase another American made car again!!!
