For a while my 1987 Camry was dieing while I was just driving along, you know, minding my own business. After waiting a bit, finding a friend with a jumper cable, it started up (without a jump). Another time, it started after jumping. Now - nothing at all: no starter turn over, no solenoid click, no lights. The battery is fairly new. We towed it to a mechanic who diagnosed the problem as ignition switch, and we towed it back home. The dealer parts man seriously doubts this and I'm holding off on the $300 special order. The battery was a good 12 volts earlier. Today it was down to about 3 volts maybe. I tried jumping again - nothing. Checking the fusable links at the battery earlier they were fine. Now I notice the 80 amp link for the alternator is burned. The NAPA parts store guy thinks I burned it with the jumping. Somebody else thought it was maybe a bad alternator. What to do now?
