Ford has been (in most cases) using a 1-3-4-2 firing order.
If you still have the original distributor cap it should have the #1 position cast into the cap.
Pop the cap and get someone to turn the ignition Key to crank the engine just a little whille you watch to see the direction the rotor turns.
#1 cylinder is on your left (the first in line).
Usually the wires have enough of a set in them that they fall into position.
