My 1989 Pontiac Grand Am won't start! Help please...

My 1989 Pontiac Grand Am won't start! Help please...

Here is what happen: About 3 months ago my car was running good, for once, and then the next morning it wouldn't start. It would crank, but not start. So, I went to school, and left it, and later that day when I got back it started up fine. So I ignored it.

Then at the begining of March, I was driving down the street, my car running fine, it had no problem starting or anything earlier, but when I got to the stop sign, it died. I tried re-starting it, and it would crank, but would not start. My boyfriend's dad and his friend say the car will not get spark. So, they changed the spark plugs for me, and still nothing. We are at a loss now. I don't want to take it to a mechanic because I am broke. I know at least two people who can fix it they say, if they could figure out what it is. They tried cleaning my wires, and checking my fuses, but nothing.

This probably sounds like a dumb question, but I really need help.  I am sorry I cannot be more detailed, but honestly I know nothing about cars, and I am sick of this car, but cannot afford another. I just want it to start. I appreciate any help anyone can give, thanks. Smile
