OK, I will take the transmission out on Monday. I appreciate the info. Is there a number where I can reach you if I run into problems? You sure know a lot about transmissions.

I have a 1992 ford f 150 automatic transmission 2 wheel drive and the shifter leaver inside will not shift it is lose but wont go in to gear so is it the gear selector cable and how do you replace it.

It moves a little but does not go into gear. Do I have to take the entire transmission out or just that back part which I assume is the extension housing.
I'm not sure what you mean by slipping the snycro backwards. Once I get in there what do you think is broken? Gears or what? Will that extension housing just slide off ...

My transmission will not go into fifth gear or reverse. I took the top off and there is a little lever that sticks up on the left side of the transmission that controls those gears. It will not go forward very far for reverse and it will not go backwards for fifth. All the gears I can see look good and it shifts fine first ...
