when i start my (1997 sebring convertible) Hot or Cold. does not matter. the starter...(i believe) makes a rattleing sound like it is hitting teeth with the flywheel. you know the sound you get when the starter is just not getting the silinoid in fast enough ... well it is a sound like that.. and when the engine has started. the sound goes away.. ...

My problem appears to be a short. Car seemed fine but before it quit starting it was making that seat belt ding ding at inappropriate times and that noise, when the doors lock themselves, was also happening.
