How do you remove a fuel pump on 1996 Ford Explorer? I am trying to remove the gas tank and I need to know what to do next. What do I move or remove? What is my next step? Is there a book that I can buy?

Here it is... 1996 Explorer Standard transmission, 4.0L V-6. Bought it off a real piece of work who did such things as "modified" the rear window washer to squirt AIR FRESHNER inside the car. my 2001 Explorer LTD,4WD occasionally doesn't start due to what appears to be not getting fuel. It doesn't happen all the time, put has now happened 3 times. some one put an junkyard motor in and the wiring harness was different. I swapped harnesses and now it does not have fuel or spark and it ran before I swapped harnesses. Any ideas?

I don't hear the fuel pump turn on when I turn the key to acc.
whats the easiest/cheapest way to fix this?
someone indicated it might be the anti-theft.
is there a fuse I can pull? something I can reset or easily disconnect?
I tried disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting but no deal.

I swapped out an in tank fuel pump and am still not getting fuel. I am hoping there is a relay hidden somewhere that needs to be reset or changed. I have power going to the fuel tank sending unit. I know this because the fuel guage works, but it spikes all the way past full sometimes, even though there is only 10 gallons of gas ...
